2013 Can-Am Spyder RT-S SE-5 Circuit Yellow Metallic - First Impressions

When it comes time to travel down the open road you could pile into your car loaded with all the necessities for the weekend. But a far more alluring way is to climb aboard the all-new 2013 Can-Am Spyder in Circuit Yellow Metallic. A machine with that “wind in your face” feel and the comfort of a luxury car.

The first thing you notice when the sun hits this beauty is the alluring yellow color popping out to meet your eyes.  The new for this year 15” rims and low profile tires in black accent the look even more. Move on to the fenders and the added light strips with brightly lit lights enhance the new curves. Those improvements although subtle, when combined with the classic look of the RT series, make for an elegant looking ride.

Moving on to the way the new Spyder feels is just as exciting. The addition of driver floorboards this year makes for a very comfortable ride. They are not just there for mere looks however. The new floorboards have some very practical functions as well. They feature a “floating” design that helps to absorb the vibrations of the road and reduce fatigue. They also feature a “break away” feature where in an aggressive braking situation the floorboards drop down away from the brake allowing you to keep pressure on the brake pedal. They simply snap back into place after. As always the Spyder features a very comfortable and supportive seat for both driver and passenger, making those longer trips something to look forward to.

New this year is a redesigned chassis that delivers even more comfort and performance for the touring enthusiasts. It features a revamped front-end geometry and new suspension that delivers confidence and comfort. Our dedicated Spyder Technician Justin Hintz has said that the new suspension is very similar to the 2012 and prior year models with the upgraded Elka Shocks. The cornering and handling of the new suspension is superb.

Also new this year is a full Brembo braking system with larger calipers and brake discs. Combine this with a next generation Bosch abs system and you get a Spyder RT with a 10% improvement in braking distance.

Combine all the new features and improvements with the already ahead of the game features such as electronically adjustable air rear suspension, semi auto transmission, cruise control am-fm radio with I-pod integration. Add to that cavernous storage space, and an electric adjustable windshield not to mention separate audio controls and heated grips for the driver and passenger and see if you can come up with a good reason not to ride. I know I can’t.

BRP improves the Required Maintenance of Can-Am Spyder

BRP is listening to their customer-base and making routine maintenance easier and more affordable for Can-Am Spyder Owners. Since 2008 we have shared with BRP that the service requirements of the Spyder is more demanding that other motorcycles. It also takes longer for our Service Department to do the repairs because the body panels have to be removed to access the engine. Fortunately, they have improved this with new panels that make oil changes faster. Central Florida PowerSports will be adjusting our rates and passing the savings on to the customer. As a bonus the new style oil filters will extend the distance between oil changes and valve inspections.

We have the new oil filters in-stock and will have the new side panels any day. Contact our Service Department to schedule your appointment to get the updated components.

Call 407–847–2453 or email service@mypowersports.com

Download updated Maintenance Schedule here.

From BRP:

“As we are all aware, it is common for Can-Am Roadster Spyder owners to cumulate lots of mileage in a riding season. Consequently in an effort to satisfy customer demands to reduce maintenance cost and frequency, BRP is pleased to introduce a new optimized maintenance schedule.”

“The revised schedule allows extended intervals between some operations; such as oil changes, valve adjustment and spark plug replacement. To achieve this improvement, BRP has developed new oil filters with a higher filtration capacity. Our extensive testing and analysis demonstrated that using the new engine and HCM BRP filters the oil changes intervals can now be increased from 5 000 km (3,000 mi) to 7 500 km (4,600 mi) without affecting in any way the engine/transmission reliability and durability.”

“Also, several inspections on high mileage engines at our test facility and in the network do confirm that the valve train adjustment intervals can be increased to 22 500 km (14,000 mi) and eliminate the inspection at 10 000 km (6,000 mi).”
